Nord-Pas de Calais, the region that packs!

Nord-Pas de Calais is one of the leading French regions of the package: all activities in the sector - mainly represented by SMEs - are present. This success reflects the strong presence of the food industry, major users of packaging.


A creative sector activities

The manufacture of packaging promotes the development of many activities such as the manufacture of packaging materials, graphics and printing, the creation-design packaging or packaging way. All these activities in the region represents more than 9 700 people in nearly 800 schools.

A dynamic industry and export

Metal packaging and cartons have an average level of investment above the French average respectively 8.5% and 5.5% of their turnover. The regional industry of packaging accounts for more than 40% of its turnover from exports, mainly to European countries, both North and South.

First French graphic province

Character of both industrial concentration and well positioned to give the region the first rank of French graphic province. Nord-Pas de Calais is indeed in the top place for all indicators, it invests more than other regions and is positioned in growing markets in terms of tonnage, such as advertisements and the catalog.

Predominance of paper and cardboard

About twenty foreign companies to packaging are present in the region and employ over 3 000 employees. Examples of the Cartonnerie Lestrem (SMURFIT Ireland), Rexam beverage (cans, GB), Wipak GRYSPEERT (fresh produce packaging, Finland).

A dense network of SMEs

The regional activity of packaging is mainly accomplished by SMEs, particularly in the manufacture of wooden containers (100%). Only fifteen companies employ over 200 employees and over 70% of the regional sector.
These include: Roland Packaging and Cartonnerie of Gondardennes for paper and cardboard, Soplaril for plastic, the glass of Masnières the Crystal d'Arques glassware and Verreries Neuvesel Souchon (BSN) for glass, Ca aud Metalbox for metal and Knauf Polystyrene for packaging.

Marketing, packaging and expansion design

Taken by mail order and retail, the graphic arts industry in the region includes many successful businesses in advertising design and printing more than 200 agencies, marketing communications, 8 specialized in packaging and design, Corporate site creation and Intel and more than 30 printers, all ready to implement their know-how and technology for the communication and promotion
